The Boathouse Wedding Videographer: Three Reasons to get Married by the Water

The Boathouse Ormesby is a stunning waterside venue nestled on the edge of Ormesby Broad. This venue is located just a few miles from my home in Caister on Sea so I’m always delighted to see an enquiry for this venue in my wedding videography inbox!

In this article I’m providing an overview of what you can expect at The Boathouse for your Norfolk Wedding. I’ll also be outlining my top three reasons to choose this venue as well as the disadvantages and practical considerations that come with a popular rural venue.

I had a great time at The Boathouse in 2022 creating this Norfolk wedding film for Dawn and Wayne. This wedding was filmed in late December, so if you’re looking for examples of a more summery vibe check out this video as well.

Venue Overview

The Boathouse is registered to conduct civil ceremonies and is an idyllic setting for creating a stunning Norfolk Wedding video.

In good weather your ceremony can take place outside in the Wedding Arbour, alternatively the Ceremony Room also provides a light and airy indoor space that can seat up to 120 people.

The Boathouse features a private wedding reception area and bar, a terrace overlooking the water and even has luxury accommodation on site, so you can host all elements of your wedding here.

You also get use of an Edwardian style launch ‘The Gentlemen Jim’, and you can even choose to arrive at The Boathouse in this vessel if you wish. I would definitely recommend this (not least for the amazing video / photo opportunity).

Three Reasons to get Married at The Boathouse

  1. The View

My favourite element of this venue has to be the stunning unspoilt views across Ormesby Broad. I love the outdoors, so having a venue so seamlessly integrated into it’s surroundings has to be one of this venues best features.

The jetty and waterside terrace also provide a perfect backdrop for romantic couple portraits.

Having the use of The Boat adds a truly unique and memorable touch to your wedding day and another great video opportunity (is that a real phrase…)

2. The Light

Good lighting is not something that is at the top of most brides wishlist, but as any good Videographer will tell you, lighting is one of the most important elements of composing beautiful video.

The Boathouse has large windows that drink in the beautiful views and flood the venue with natural light. Perfect.

3. Convenience

Although there may be many valid reasons to base your wedding day across multiple different locations, having everything you need in one place can only be a good thing.

There is a lot to think about on your big day and many moving parts that need to come together to make your wedding happen. Having everything you need in one venue reduces the amount of stressful planning and coordination and is much more convenient for your guests.

In my experience relaxed couples have the most fun on their wedding day so anything you can do to reduce the amount of stress or friction you encounter shouldn’t be underestimated.

Cons

No wedding venue is perfect and I have also observed a couple of drawbacks to this venue that you may also want to consider:

  1. Limited Availability: due to high demand there may be limited availability during summer months, so if you like this venue it’s advisable to book in advance, particularly in peak season

  2. Remote location: due to it’s rural location it’s advisable to consider the transportation and logistics involved in getting to and from the venue, particularly for guest travelling from further afield.
