Write Your Own Vows

Writing your own vows is the best way to make your ceremony true reflection of you and your relationship. An opportunity to give your husband or wife to be an insight into your heart and make the legalities of the ceremony much more personal. It will also elevate your wedding film infinitely. The audio from your vows provides an insight into you and your partners personalities and relationship and elevates the emotion of your film. Write each other letters

If writing your own Vows isn't your cup of tea, writing each other a letter or card and reading it to your videographer is just as good. It can bring so much depth and emotion into your film through gaining a better insight into your personalities. The principles for writing vows are all relevant to writing letters so have a look at that article for some inspiration.

Make time for Golden Hour

With so much going on on your wedding day, time can quickly run away from you. Building time into your schedule for video ensures you don't have to rush or miss out on the opportunity for stunning couple portraits. Ideally I love to film couples twice during the day. Once shortly after the ceremony, when your dress is prestine and your tie is still straight and again an hour before sunset (golden hour). GH is my favourite time of day to film. The sun is low in the sky which creates beautiful sun flares and a flattering soft glow. Its the perfect backdrop for romance and creates beautiful memories for your wedding film. Couple Portraits usually takes around 10 to 15 minutes per session. I don't want to keep you from your party for too long!

Get Ready Near a Window

If you can, get ready in a room with large windows, lots of natural light and a neutral colours scheme. Setting up your room for success will create the best photos and video. Try not to let the room get too cluttered. It's great to have flowers, cards and a glass of champagne but brightly coloured banners and baloons often don't make for the best backdrop for your video and you may not want to immortalise them in your photos and video forever more.

Have an Engagement Shoot

Having an engagement shoot is a great way to get another beautiful video and get to know your videographer. You'll be a pro when your time comes for your golden hour shoot and feel much more at ease being filmed. Feeling relaxed will in turn elevate your film even further. When I film engagement shoots i like to meet couples an hour before sunset at a beautiful location. I then film you walking together holding hands, standing together talking and maybe even a kiss or two. I always have an awesome time with my couples on these shoots and it can make the experience of being filmed on your wedding day all the more enjoyable. Check out an example engagement film here.
